Co-operatives and Mutuals Sector-Based Climate Action Declaration and Implementation Report

The Business Council of Co-operatives and Mutuals (BCCM) is the membership body for the co-operative and mutual sector in Australia.

Their members are leading co-operatives and mutuals operating across the economy from agriculture, retail, motoring, travel, finance and insurance to housing, health, social care and education.

Client: Ocean Outdoor

Project: Decarbonisation Plan

Year: 2025

What was the brief?

Undertake a research project on climate action in the sector for signatories of the Co-operatives and Mutuals Declaration of Climate Action.  A set of principles for ambitious climate action for the sector aligned with the UN Race to Zero.

What was the solution

We met with a range of signatories to review how they had implemented climate action – to showcase their progress and to inspire further action across the section.  The report was launched at the BCCM Leader’s Summit in Perth in October 2024.

How did we deliver value?

We showcased initiatives from the co-operatives and mutual sector – from diverse range of organisations from grain producers to banks and insurance, to community energy companies demonstrating what real-life climate action looks like.
