Watts Sustainability has been working with David Collins Studio for a number of years and has been working with them to implement a sustainability strategy aligned with key environmental and social themes. Interior design is an area which can have significant sustainability impacts relating to the materials chosen and what happens to them at the end of life.

A recent project was to help guide their design team in understanding sustainability issues associated with material selection and specification. To aid in this we developed an online web-based database which provides the background information and data that they need to undertake more sustainable projects.

For many materials that they use with higher impacts there are frequently better alternatives – or choices that can be made using particular certification schemes or with particular suppliers – the material sustainability guide is an important step for them to improve their projects.
