Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity – Sustainable Fundraising Research Project
A carbon footprint assessment of GOSHC’s fundraising, revealing hidden impacts and practical ways forward.
Client: Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity
Project: Earth Friendly Fundraising
Year: 2025
Who was the client?
Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity, which supports the world-famous children’s hospital and stops at nothing to help give seriously ill children childhoods that are fuller, funnier and longer.
What did we do?
To understand the carbon impact of their fundraising activities and identify where meaningful reductions could be made.
Fundraising is essential, but can also be carbon-intensive.
Considerations should be given to:
- Events (galas, runs, auctions)
- Direct mail campaigns
- Digital campaigns
- Travel-heavy donor meetings
We carried out a detailed carbon footprint assessment across eight fundraising streams, highlighting hidden hotspots and practical opportunities for change.
How did we deliver value?
The project gave GOSHC clear evidence and a starting point for embedding sustainability into fundraising.
- Measured the total fundraising footprint for the first time
- Identified unexpected hotspots, including digital campaigns and mass participation t-shirts
- Informed the creation of an Earth-Friendly Fundraising Group to turn findings into action
Read more in this LinkedIn post about the project or the CIOF article, which covers the findings in detail.
What our clients say?

Don’t underestimate the impact you can have as fundraisers – even small changes can make a big difference.
