South Western Railway: Sustainability training

South Western Railway is a rail franchise covering urban, suburban, regional and long-distance routes between London Waterloo and south western England, operating nearly 1,700 services each weekday and around 235 million passenger journeys a year.

To support their ambitious sustainability strategy, South Western Railway required a comprehensive course of in-house training, covering social value and community engagement, climate change, managing environmental risks and implementing sustainability into major projects. In close consultation with SWR, Watts Sustainability designed and delivered a bespoke IEMA accredited programme.

Course participants felt encouraged to share their learning with their teams, and commented that they felt newly aware of the excellent work of their own corporate sustainability team. The programme was successful in encouraging enthusiastic interaction between the delegates and SWR’s sustainability team, while gathering valuable input for future initiatives through interactive and collaborative exercises.
