ecoACTIVE: Climate Education for the Next Generation

EcoACTIVE is an innovative environmental education charity, based near our office in Hackney. They offer climate-related education for local schools and community groups, and support gardening projects for nearby young people and residents. Their mission is to ‘create a world where young people and communities are agents of change to create a better planet.

As the climate crisis continues to shape our future, the demand for green jobs is growing—and so is the need for young people to access meaningful opportunities to prepare for these roles. That’s where this project comes in.

Watts Sustainability partnered with ecoACTIVE to offer pro-bono support, using our experience delivering high quality education programmes for corporate clients to deliver climate and sustainability education for Key Stage 5! As an ISEP-certified training provider, we developed and delivered an adaptation of the ISEP Environmental Sustainability Skills for the Workforce, simplified for an audience of 16 to 18-year-olds (ISEP was formerly known as IEMA).

Delivered in collaboration with ecoACTIVE, this engaging course helped learners understand and address critical environmental challenges, such as climate action, biodiversity protection, waste management and sustainable business practices. We helped inspire a passion for our environment in the next generation, highlighted the wealth of green careers options available to them. Through participating in the ISEP-certified course, learners were also equipped them with a globally recognised ISEP ESSW certification – a credential highly valued by employers in the UK’s growing green economy.

We’re thrilled to be supporting an exciting project with ecoACTIVE, designed to equip young people with the skills, confidence, and knowledge they need to thrive in a rapidly changing world.

Together, we’re helping to break down barriers and make sustainability something young people can do, not just learn about, thereby building momentum for a more sustainable future led by the next generation.

As a result of this project, Peter is hugely excited to be welcomed to ecoACTIVE’s board of trustees, offering his long-term advisory support and connections to this important charity. We are looking forward to working with ISEP and ecoACTIVE to scale up this project, increasing IEMA’s outreach to a younger audience.

We urge any of our clients and contacts who are interested in getting involved with supporting sustainability at a local level to get in touch. There are loads of ways to get involved and support, from a practical hands-on sustainability workshop for your team, economic support for local projects or volunteering opportunities.
