Watts Sustainability and Ocean Outdoor Shortlisted for Net Zero Award
We are thrilled to share that Watts Sustainability and Ocean Outdoor have been jointly shortlisted for Net Zero Strategy of the Year at the BusinessGreen UK Green Business Awards 2026. We’re in good company too, shortlisted alongside organisations including Aviva, Capgemini, Rolls-Royce, and Ørsted.
Ocean Outdoor is a premium out-of-home media owner operating large-format screens across the UK and Europe. Watts Sustainability is a specialist sustainability consultancy working across climate action, sustainability strategy and training with clients spanning 17+ sectors. Watts Sustainability has been a sustainability partner with Ocean Outdoor since 2020 and in 2025 helped to develop its net zero decarbonisation strategy.
The shortlisting recognises the collaborative work both organisations have put into building a net zero strategy that is credible, evidence-based, and already delivering results. At the heart of it is a decarbonisation plan, developed jointly by Ocean Outdoor and Watts Sustainability, which quantified the potential carbon saving of over 25 initiatives in precise tCO₂-e terms. The plan enabled Ocean Outdoor to identify their highest-impact interventions, model annual carbon budgets through to 2040, and account for projected business growth. Those targets were formally validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) in 2025, giving them independent credibility and a clear benchmark for tracking progress towards net zero by 2040, ten years ahead of the UK’s national target and the Paris Agreement goal.
A Strategy Already Delivering
The results to date are tangible. Ocean Outdoor has reduced its market-based Scope 2 emissions by over 80% since its 2022 baseline, following a switch to 100% renewable electricity across its UK and Netherlands operations. All UK company cars are now electric or hybrid. Additionally, by procuring Product Carbon Footprints for new screen hardware and developing embodied carbon benchmarks for screen installations, Ocean Outdoor’s carbon footprint data quality has been improved well beyond standard reporting practice. This methodology has since been shared with AdGreen (an international organisation which unites media owners on net zero) to support industry-wide progress on decarbonising advertising campaigns.
We’re proud of what this partnership has produced and delighted to see it recognised at a national level. At Watts Sustainability, we help organisations develop credible, evidence-based net zero strategies, from initial carbon footprinting and target-setting through to detailed decarbonisation planning and SBTi validation. If your organisation is looking to put its climate commitments on a more rigorous footing, we’d love to have a conversation.
